The Ministry of Agriculture and Water will invest 11.2 million euros for the improvement and adaptation of classification processes and biological treatment of municipal solid waste plant Ulea funded 80 percent by the Cohesion Fund of the Union European and 20 percent equity of the Community.
The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, and the mayor of Ulea Victor Manuel Lopez, presented the project of the new plant, which will allow the modification of the treatment systems and existing facilities to adapt to new processing needs today. This action will reduce up to 20 percent of the waste input to landfill.
The new plant will be equipped with automatic selection and opening bags.

The characteristics of the plant will increase the recoveries of plastic between 75 and 85 percent, 90 percent steel, 30 percent aluminum, 75 percent tetra brik and between 40 and 60 percent of paper and cardboard.
Cerda said that the modernization of the plant "will be exemplary and referral center for the treatment of waste."
He said "these actions will involve separating and sorting increase recovery rates of packaging that can be run on its use, which is what is known as blue economy."
Compliance with the Law on Packaging and Waste
The plant will be ready to comply with the new law on packaging and packaging waste by increasing the separation of fractions containing materials and substances that can still get a usable value by increasing and improving recovery rates.
