In one of the field trips conducted by members of this association abaranera found over 100 meters of paved Roman road most perfect state of preservation at the Puerto de la Losi, in the municipality of Ulea.
"The Carrahila" expects to carry out an excavation unit and put in value which will undoubtedly be one of the best tourist attractions and cultural Ricote Valley and the entire region of Murcia, being also the only conserved stretch of road Carthago Nova - Complutum for our province.
This association carried out a study on the route of the Roman Carthago Nova - Complutum by the terms of the municipalities that now make up the Commonwealth of the Ricote Valley, from Abarán to Archena.
This study was prepared for inclusion in the next international conference in this region as been conducted every two years.
Field surveys of Puerto de la Losilla were conducted in March 2006 and resulted in the discovery of the remains unpublished Roman road.
Later, Jesus Joaquin Lopez Moreno, a member of the association, conducted and presented the study which was accepted by the scientific committee of the Fourth International Congress of the Ricote Valley.
The results were presented in November last year Ricote and published in conference proceedings.
It is once the Heritage Service has been aware of this new finding and that "Carrahila" has ensured that the remains are registered in the Regional Archaeological Charter, when it's released to the public.
There are more than 100 meters Roman road given half-buried or completely hidden on the right bank of the Barranco del Jumper, which corresponds to this part in the course of the cattle route called Cañada Real de La Mancha Murcia or cabañil.
This area of the gorge is formed by several layers of natural stones were used by the Romans to build on them paved road.
Although it has not yet been the subject of archaeological excavations, we can see that the paving slabs are placed directly on the rock, having a thickness of about 30 cm.
On the other hand, the width of the roadway is continuously adapted to the topography of the ravine, cut jobs to appreciate the natural rock in order to give scope to a narrow passage.
We can clearly see a section width of 3.80 meters, surpassing the largest area 6m.
Finally, all paved road is crossed by exposed ruts or tracks arranged in irregular arrangement and created by the continuous passage of carriage wheels.
Verily, the only element that is currently available for the dating of this stretch of Roman road is the date that said the missing milestone left for the Losi.
Miliaria column was built in the time of Emperor Tiberius, to be dated between 31 and 33 AD
The Roman road was in effect for Puerto de la Losilla from its construction until the reforms of Carlos III in the second half of the eighteenth century.
At this time new sections were plotted as seen in the remains excavated by Manuel López road Campuzano in 1997, in the mountain pass and a few meters of completing the pass of the Losi.
But luckily, the reforms carried out by Carlos III did not affect the road for us remains found in March 2006, making this archaeological also the only preserved section of Roman road road Carthago Nova - Complutum in the Region Murcia.
The study presented at the Fourth International Congress Ricote Valley in November 2007 was entitled "The road Carthago Nova - Complutum and its links to the Valle de Ricote" and subdivided into three parts.
The first concerned the topographical layout of the Roman road from Abarán to Archena and the various ways that linked from this into the valley, in the second part of a study on the evolution of the historic route from the Middle Paleolithic the Cañada Real de La Mancha Murcia or cabañil to the construction of the existing motorway Murcia and in the last part was announced the proposal of the Cultural Association "The Carrahila" to convert the road remains preserved and all the topographic layout of the Roman road, a tourist and cultural potential claim to the Valley of Ricote through the design of a historic route of about 16 km Abarán municipalities, White, and Archena Ulea.
